Human-level intelligence to be matched by AI by the year 2029

Some Natural News readers may be familiar with the 1970 movie Colossus: The Forbin Project starring Eric Braeden, before he became a soap-opera star, about a sentient supercomputer [spoiler alert] that takes over the world.

This kind of dire forecast is no longer found just in the realm of science fiction, however.

Billionaire Elon Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX boss and PayPal co-founder, warned in 2014 that rapidly, artificial intelligence (AI) could destroy human life as smarter and more intuitive robots reign supreme.

He has also, subsequently, claimed that when AI outpaces people, humans will disturbingly be reduced to the intelligence level comparable to a house cat in comparison.

Back in 2015, Health Ranger Mike Adams, the founder of Natural News, warned that once AI technology develops into highly evolved, self-aware systems, the human race has a big time Terminator problem.

“Follow this along for just 4-5 generations and you get machines with demigod-level cognitive capabilities, and it won’t take but a microsecond for such a machine to conclude that humans are a threat to its own existence,” Adams wrote.

At the recent SXSW Conference in Austin, Tex., Google director of engineering Ray Kurzweil, 69, made a bold prediction about artificial intelligence “singularity,” the Express of London reported. Given the potential ramifications, you might want to save the date.

By 2029, computers will have human-level intelligence. That leads to computers having human intelligence, our putting them inside our brains, connecting them to the cloud, expanding who we are. Today, that’s not just a future scenario. It’s here, in part, and it’s going to accelerate.

Unlike the events in the Forbin Project, Kurzweil insists that the likelihood of AI overlords enslaving humans is an unrealistic scenario. The futurist, author, and inventor added that with AI, “They may not yet be inside our bodies, but, by the 2030s, we will connect our neocortex, the part of our brain where we do our thinking, to the cloud.. We’re going to be sexier. We’re going to expand our minds and exemplify these artistic qualities that we value.”

Elon Musk recently acquired a start-up company with the purpose of developing so-called neural lace technology to hook up the human brain to a computer for the purposes of achieving enhanced cognitive functioning. He has already launched an initiative calling for AI safety standards with the nonprofit organization OpenAI.

A study by accounting firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers claims that robots and artificial intelligence could take over two of every five jobs in America within about the next 15 years.
