Four-legged walking robots are nothing new – Boston Dynamics has been making them for ages – but this could be the first one that’ll potentially come home with you.

It’s called the Ghost Minitaur and is being built by the US company Ghost Roboticswhich has slated it for mass production and, eventually, private ownership.
Admittedly, taking the mechanical critter home for Christmas isn’t going to be cheap. The estimated price for it is around $1,500 (£1,150).
What’s more, it can also climb stairs and open doors, which is a little unnerving to say the least.
The team believe that other robotics labs – as well as individuals – will be able to come up with new things for the Minitaur to do. So perhaps the sight of one of them clambering over your garden fence will become increasingly common in the future.
